Lyon College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in American History, beginning August 2016. Ph.D. required. Responsibilities include teaching introductory and upper-level courses in American history, as well as courses in the Western civilization sequence. Experience at a small residential liberal arts college as a student or as a faculty member is desirable. Absent that experience, understanding of the difference between a small college and a university, and the desire to be on the faculty of a small college are important. Lyon College is a USN&WR “top tier” national liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It is located in the foothills of the Ozarks in Batesville, Arkansas, a safe and convenient town of 10,000 that serves as commercial, medical, social, and governmental hub for an eight-county area. The College enrolls over 700 students from twenty-five states and eleven foreign countries on its picturesque 136-acre campus. Entering freshmen have an average HSGPA of 3.6 and an average ACT of 25.
