The Department of History at Stony Brook University has reopened its search for the inaugural holder of the Robert David Lion Gardiner Chair in American History. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Our search encompasses all specializations and all periods before 1914, with a preference for scholarship in Native American and/or African American History. A viable applicant must be a leading scholar in their field who is dedicated to teaching, mentorship and service. A commitment to recruiting and engaging students from underrepresented groups is also vital. We expect that our new colleague will participate in the Department's outreach to Long Island and greater New York City. The position comes with competitive salary plus research money, all made possible by a generous gift from Robert D. L. Gardiner Foundation.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in American History. Record of excellence in scholarship and teaching.
