Duties & Responsibilities
Serves as coordinator for all aspects of production of "Muqarnas" and "Supplements to Muqarnas."* all aspects of manuscript preparation: corresponds with authors and publisher, edits submissions, conveys editorial comments, recommends editorial and pictorial changes as needed, resolves all issues related to publishing and deadlines. Duties include copyediting, proofreading, and picture editing. Uses initiative in having publications reviewed and publicized and in promoting their visibility and impact. Also edits program newsletter, website, and lecture series poster in consultation with program director. Performs other duties as required, including in-house editing for two Aga Khan Program faculty members.
Basic Qualifications
BA required. 5 years related experience. Requirements include strong working knowledge of publishing procedures; proven command of editorial, grammatical, and stylistic skills and techniques.
Additional Qualifications
Must have word-processing and computer-editing skills, e-mail experience, and some familiarity with image scanning and image- editing programs such as Photoshop. PhD with some background in Islamic cultures preferred, knowledge of European and at least one Middle Eastern language (Arabic, Persian, Turkish) essential. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; and ability to work both collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision.

A long-term commitment is strongly preferred. Overtime is sometimes required. Interview and editing sample are required from finalist candidates only. Job cannot be shared. *Published through the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard, "Muqarnas" is one of the few journals dedicated to the study of Islamic art and architecture. It is a major resource for academic specialists in Islamic
art history as well as for students interested in studying this field. "Supplements to Muqarnas" are monographs dedicated to English translations and interpretations of primary sources on visual culture in Middle Eastern languages. Both are published by Brill (Leiden and Boston).
