Duties: The Department of History and Political Science seeks to hire a specialist in Early American History. Preferred areas of expertise include Public History and/or Women’s History. The successful candidate must demonstrate experience and dedication to innovative undergraduate teaching. In addition to both halves of the American History survey, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach upper-division courses in our groundbreaking Rural Studies baccalaureate program. Potential Rural Studies courses might include topics such as Introduction to Public History and Rural Communities. The successful candidate would also be encouraged to develop new upper division courses in her/his area of expertise. Evidence of successful teaching and scholarly activity is essential. Ph.D. required. The successful applicant must have 18 or more graduate hours in her/his area of expertise.
The successful candidate will also serve as an academic advisor to students in the department’s programs and participate in administrative and service activities, and work effectively as a member of a faculty team to continually update and improve the content of degree programs in the department. The typical teaching load is a 5-5. This is a ten-month, tenure-track instructor position carrying the rank of Assistant Professor.
