Position Details:
The Graduate Center (GC) defines the standard of contemporary graduate education: rigorous academic training and globally significant research. lt is recognized for outstanding scholarship across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, and is integral to the intellectual and cultural vitality of New York City. Through its extensive public programs, The Graduate Center hosts a wide range of events - lectures, conferences, book discussions, art exhibits, concerts, and dance and theater that enrich and inform.
The Office of Admissions provides direction and strategic planning in support of the mission of recruiting and enrolling a highly qualified and diverse student body at the GC. The Office of Admissions is responsible for the coordination of admissions activities with other student services offices, GC academic programs, and senior level administrators to facilitate the recruitment and enrollment of new master's and doctoral students.
The Assistant Director of Admissions/Science Recruiter reports directly to Director of Admissions and will assist in developing and managing admissions and recruitment activities for the Science programs.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Collaborates with the GC Science Program faculty and the Office of Admissions in the development of admissions and enrollment goals, strategies, and initiatives;
- Participates in planning recruitment and outreach events and presents GC Science programs, funding opportunities, services, etc. to prospective students and the general public in individual and group settings;
- Attends regional and national graduate recruitment events and represents the GC Science programs to prospective students;
- Assists in the coordination of all aspects of student entry into the program from point of prospect, to application, to acceptance, and to advisement;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
CUNY Title Overview:
- Conducts and coordinates student recruiting and other admissions activities.
- Counsels prospective, transfer, and current students on their academic goals and how they may be achieved at the College, and assists them in preparing academic plans
- Provides referrals to other College departments as needed to further assist student/applicant
- Conducts follow-up with students from inquiry stage to registration
- Reviews applications and provides preliminary recommendations on admissions
- Participates in recruitment programs such as open house sessions, and direct recruiting activities
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate should have:
- Familiarity with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) academic programs in higher education
- Experience with recruiting students
- Experience working in student services or a customer service setting
- Experience with giving oral presentations to small and large groups
- A high degree of organizational skills and the ability to take initiative
- Ability to research and analyze data, and prepare reports
- Experience is using advertising, e-recruitment initiatives, social media, and other promotional efforts
- Ability to travel, in and out-of-state
- Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends
- Valid driver's license
