The Department of History at Washington State University is seeking to hire a two year-long teaching postdoc to teach the university’s core undergraduate course, “The Roots of Contemporary Issues” beginning August 2016, pending budgetary approval. “The Roots of Contemporary Issues” is a history course that helps students make sense of our increasingly complex world by focusing on the deep historical roots of present-day issues in global perspective. Areas of specialty are open, but successful candidates must have graduate training that demonstrates their ability to understand historical problems in transnational, comparative, or global perspective. Candidates should also demonstrate an ability to engage students in discussions on race, gender, globalization, conflict, and/or the environment. Teaching experience preferred; Ph.D. by the time of appointment is required. Roots of Contemporary Issues postdocs teach a 4/4 load with one preparation. Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, one-page teaching statement, one sample syllabus (any subject), and three letters of recommendation. Applicants should submit material online at www.wsujobs.com. Review of applications will begin March 1, 2016. WSU is an EOE/AA Educator and Employer.
