Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutional information.
Reporting directly to the Director of the Client Services Division, the Media Services Associate provides proactive anti-reactive support for all AV technologies and video conferencing systems in conference, training, auditoria, and/or public spaces as well as support desktop video conferencing software.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Administer and manage the Distributed Digital Signage System;
- Administer and manage the LifeSize Videoconferencing System, Video Streaming Server, Audio Conferencing and Web Conferencing infrastructure at the application level;
- Manage the use of classroom technologies including coordination and provision of video-capture services for classes, events and special assignments;
- Provide troubleshooting support for all AV and conference room technologies; facilitate in-house resolution where possible and consult with Assistant Director for the Client Services Division for additional support when necessary;
- Implement and test audio, video and audio-visual systems as well as hardware and system control software;
- Handle mounting, cabling, installation and servicing of projectors, screens, flat panel monitors, control consoles, audio capture, distribution and reinforcement systems, audio and video conference systems;
- Conduct or take part in regular conference room checks and AV system inspections; resolve minor issues immediately; coordinate resolution of major issues, forward non-AV issues to the appropriate department for problem resolution;
- Mentor back-up support staff and/or AV technicians as necessary to help develop their knowledge and troubleshooting skills;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other IT units and departments, external vendors/contractors;
- Collaborate with Asset Management Assistant in managing the location and storage of AV equipment; participate with salvaging equipment and assist with the annual Graduate Center inventory;
- Prepare effective written materials for the purpose of system documentation and end-user training;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General Duties:
I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent
2. An equivalent of ten years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: ten years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus eight years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus six years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position
3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency
4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.
This title has three levels. In addition to the minimum qualifications above, To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.
Other Qualifications:
A preferred candidate should have:
- Three years of experience in supporting AV and conferencing technologies in a fast-paced, customer oriented environment
- Advanced knowledge of current audiovisual, audio, video and web conferencing technologies
- Experience with the analysis, design, integration, installation and support of audiovisual systems hardware, software and technical infrastructure
- Experience with video conferencing systems and streaming technology
- Prior substantive WAN, LAN and VoIP experience
- Knowledge of principles of audiovisual and low-voltage technologies design, development, engineering, integration, implementation, performance criteria and analysis
- CTS certification is a plus
- Working knowledge of Crestron control system implementation, operation and troubleshooting (Crestron, Kramer, Extron, etc.)
- Familiarity with PC hardware; Mac hardware a plus; familiarity with Windows Operating System (Windows 7/10) and Mac OS X are a plus
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, work independently and meet necessary deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication
