Departments of History and Africana & Latino Studies
Historically Underrepresented Dissertation Fellow
(Visiting Assistant Professor)
The Departments of History and Africana & Latino Studies at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invite applications for a non-tenure-track position as a Historically Underrepresented Dissertation Fellow (Visiting Assistant Professor) in African and/or Afro-Caribbean History. This is a temporary, two-year appointment beginning Fall 2016. SUNY Oneonta is a comprehensive, public, liberal arts and sciences college. The College sits at #9 on the 2016 list of “Top Public Regional Universities” in the North published by U.S. News & World Report, and is ranked #175 in the Northeast on the Forbes magazine list of “America's Top Colleges.” With approximately one hundred majors and thirteen full-time faculty members, the History Department offers a rich and diverse learning experience in an intimate setting for its undergraduate program. The Africana & Latino Studies Department, founded forty years ago, is one of a handful in the United States that integrates and maintains the intersections of Black and Latino Studies. It remains steadfast to concerns about, and activism in favor of social justice, upon which the (inter) discipline was founded. The Department offers a major in Africana and Latino Studies as well as four minors – Africana Studies minor, Latina/o Studies minor, Social Justice minor and an Urban Studies minor. Both Departments have strong histories of excellence in teaching, faculty-student mentoring, and continued contact with alumni. Many students, more than half of these being non-majors, take courses at upper-division levels in both Departments.
