The Carter G. Woodson Institute for African American and African Studies and the American Studies Program invite applications for a joint professorship in African Diaspora Studies at the rank of assistant or associate professor. We seek scholars whose teaching and research explore the arts, media, culture, politics or history of the Black Atlantic. Regional focus could include the francophone, lusophone and/or the Hispanic Black Atlantic, especially Mexico, Central or South America or the Caribbean. The candidate’s work should illuminate historical and/or cultural linkages among various parts of the Americas, or between Africa and the Americas. Responsibilities include teaching half-time in the Woodson Institute and half-time in the American Studies Program, as well as proportional service to both units, with the opportunity for affiliation with the Latin American Studies Program. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field at the time of application. They should integrate interdisciplinary approaches in their scholarship and teaching, and possess a proven record of scholarly engagement and publication.
