The Department of History at the University of Central Florida invites applications for the position of department chair, with an expected start date of August 2016. The academic home for the department is in the College of Arts and Humanities, and the chair reports to the dean of the College of Arts & Humanities. The successful candidate will deftly manage programs, personnel, and budget, as well as actively pursue opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
UCF is a growing metropolitan research university in Orlando enrolling over 63,000 students. The department offers a B.A. and an M.A. in history and includes vibrant public history program. The department also participates in the Texts and Technology Ph.D. program – an interdisciplinary program housed in the College of Arts and Humanities. Position minimum qualifications: A Ph.D. in history from an accredited institution; prior academic administrative responsibility with evidence of successful budget and personnel management; and a distinguished record of teaching and scholarly activity.
Preferences: Evidence of successful academic program planning and development, including the ability to work with faculty to create and implement a shared vision for excellence and innovation to address contemporary issues in the humanities; experience cultivating strategic partnerships and acquiring grant funding; a commitment to diversity; a demonstrated commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinarity, including significant community and global outreach; demonstrated fund raising experience and a record of scholarship equivalent to the rank of full professor.
