Job Description:
Teach pre-college and college-level courses in US History and Western Civilizations.
Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities. Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.
Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.
Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.
Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Evening and/or Saturday assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in history; OR
Bachelor’s in history AND master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science, or ethnic studies; OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Advanced coursework and/or teaching experience in Western Civilization/European History.
Experience using technology as applied in academia.

Originally enrolling 28 students in its first year in 1913, today Fullerton College boasts an enrollment figure of nearly 25,000. Founded in 1913, the college is the oldest community college in continuous operation in California. As one of five institutions of higher learning in Fullerton, it is an integral part of both the K-12 and higher education systems. Fullerton College offers a comprehensive educational program of lower division transfer courses and vocational training to prepare its students for further academic study as well as today’s technology-driven workforce.
The college is recognized as a leader in transfers to four-year institutions throughout the state of California and awards more than 300 career certificates each year. Fullerton College is served by a full-complement of student services including a bookstore, health center, career development center, and campus dining. Students also enjoy a wide variety of extra-curricular activities including athletics teams, a student-newspaper, and clubs.
The 83-acre campus features 11 major instructional buildings that include conventional classrooms as well as state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for science, art, computer technology, photography, automotive services, physical education, and other specialized programs. A successful bond measure in 2002 provided $125 million for new construction and extensive renovation. The college is now preparing to utilize a new bond measure that passed in 2014 and will award NOCCCD $574 million to fund construction and renovation projects for the next 25 years.
