Position Summary:
This Department in CHASS offers undergraduate majors in political science, and in history, including a bachelor of science in history and secondary education. The Department also provides minors in History, Political Science, Homeland Security and a Homeland Security Certificate Program, Philosophy, and offers three Geography courses for Education majors.
The Department Chair is responsible for administration of the department. This includes the scheduling of courses for History and Geography, supervising the program coordinators of Political Science, Homeland Security, and Philosophy to schedule their courses, meeting with faculty and students to resolve any issues that may occur, administering the day-to-day activities of the department, supervising the department administrative assistant, preparing and submitting annual department assessment reports, providing leadership for the program, preparing annual performance reviews, and assisting faculty in professional development activities.
In addition, the Chair will be responsible for teaching two courses (6 credit hours) a semester in History in accordance with the needs of the History Program. This includes preparing and presenting course materials; administering appropriate tests; evaluating student outcomes; selecting and ordering texts; preparing, administering and grading assignments; and assigning final grades.
As with every faculty position, it is expected that the Chairs continue to engage in scholarly activities appropriate to this discipline, and participate in service-related activities of the University.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in History, with emphasis in non-U.S. history
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing budgets, working with faculty from different disciplines, working with diverse student populations, and prior experience as a chair working with administration
