Bryn Mawr College seeks to hire an educational technology specialist. The Educational Technology Specialist position within Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) is responsible for helping College community members integrate technology into their teaching, learning and scholarship. The Educational Technology Specialist consults directly with faculty and staff to articulate pedagogical or academic program goals and challenges, and to identify and implement technologies that meet them. This position reports to the Manager of Educational Technology Services (ETS). ETS collaborates with LITS and college-wide partners, including the Office of the Provost and academic departments, to design, implement, manage, and evaluate educational technology services and to provide the documentation, workshops and faculty development programming, and technical support that community members need to use educational technologies successfully.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consultation with faculty and staff to identify instructional, curricular, or research goals or challenges and to devise solutions to meet them. Consulting responsibilities include forming relationships with clients, advertising available services and tools, recommending those appropriate to a client’s goals, customizing and integrating solutions as needed, providing direct support needed to ensure that clients can successfully adopt new technologies and approaches, and evaluating their effectiveness.
- Outreach and communication to raise community awareness about available tools and services, promote effective instructional strategies, and connect clients with appropriate supports. Communication responsibilities may include delivering presentations related to teaching and learning with technology, developing workshops for faculty, students, and staff; developing content for LITS print and web publications, and documenting client support activities and outcomes.
- Working closely with other members of the Educational Technology Services team to design, implement, and manage educational technology programs and services that meet the needs of the community in an effective, efficient, and sustainable way.
- Working closely with and providing direction to student employees hired to assist in the execution of educational technology programs and services.
- Active participation in LITS projects and initiatives
- Other duties as assigned by Manager of Educational Technology Services
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to:
- collaborate effectively with faculty, professional staff, and students in a higher education environment
- analyze client needs and map those needs to existing services and tools
- communicate effectively with, and translate information for, community members with diverse levels of technology understanding and proficiency.
- quickly learn new technical skills and to research trends and best practices in higher education teaching, learning, assessment and technology use
- Excellent communication skills, in both oral presentation and written forms
- Proficiency with basic office software (spreadsheets, word processing, presentation tools); email, calendaring and other productivity tools; and learning management systems.
- Experience with one or more of the following: remote collaboration tools, multimedia (audio, video, digital storytelling), digital humanities / digital scholarship, mobile computing, blended/distance learning, e-portfolios, Drupal, current web standards and tools, learning outcomes and assessment design
- Experience with rapid prototyping, iterative design, and/or formative evaluation methodologies
- Commitment to providing exceptional client service and to driving tangible results
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
One to three years’ professional focus on educational technology in a higher education environment and/or an advanced academic degree and experience working with existing and emerging technologies to support teaching, learning, and/or research.
