Context Travel, a leading organisation in travel for intellectually curious travellers, is looking to expand its docent pool in Berlin and Amsterdam.
Context is a very different sort of travel company: we work with local scholars and experts to create theme-based "walking seminars" in major cities worldwide. Context currently operates in a number of European cultural capitals, including Rome, Paris, and London, as well as in Asia and the United States--37 destinations in all.
Our groups are very small, 6 people maximum. Most of the participants are from abroad (mainly Canada and the U.S.), and the idea is that these walks are in-depth explorations of a topic, not a scripted "tour" in the traditional sense.
Work is on a flexible freelance basis to meet the varying needs of each docent's outside working demands. We are looking for scholars who are already based in these cities or will be relocating to these cities for research for at least 6 months (long-term preferred).
Context is looking for experts in a variety of specialties: history, social history, architecture, art history, contemporary art, design, literature, food, etc. Our specific needs are as follows, though other specialties are welcome to apply:
Berlin
- Experts in 20th-century German and European history
- Experts in Jewish Studies or Jewish history, with a focus on Germany
- Experts in gastronomy and food anthropology
Amsterdam
- Experts in 16th- and 17th-century Dutch and European history
- Experts in urban development and sustainable design
- Experts in all fields with experience in working with families
- Experts in Jewish Studies or Jewish history, with a focus on the Netherlands
