The Religious Studies Program in the School of World Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a tenure-eligible position in Islamic Studies at the Assistant Professor level, with preference for a scholar working on religion and the arts and/or social justice. We seek a candidate with a clear research agenda, a commitment to seeking external funding, and strong potential for teaching, including methods in the study of religion. The School of World Studies is a dynamic multidisciplinary nexus, combining programs in Anthropology, International Studies, Foreign Languages, and Religious Studies.
Required qualifications: PhD in an appropriate discipline, in hand by August 2016, and a record of or demonstrable potential for excellence in scholarship and teaching. We are looking for candidates who bring interdisciplinary and global perspectives to their work. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, along with a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU, is required.
