The History Department is responsible for the history education of students in grades 9 - 12. The courses taught by the History Department include African-American, American, Early World, European, Modern World, World History, and several quarter long elective classes. History teachers are responsible for supervising students both in and out of the classroom; maintaining up-to-date teaching techniques to provide students with a quality educational experience; monitoring the performance of their students; and recognizing problems and coordinating with administrators, other teachers, and parents.
The ideal candidate will have training /experience to teach courses in two or more of the following areas: U.S. History in global perspective, African-American history, Latino-American history, Native-American history, and Asian-American history, but who is also willing to teach in other areas of History and the Social Sciences. Teachers are expected to work independently and prepare for his/her own courses but will also collaborate with members in their department, colleagues in other departments, as well as with staff, administrators, and faculty of the University.
Full time teachers are expected to work a 40-hour work week and the required number of days as stipulated in the Faculty Association contract. All teachers are expected to perform in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Anticipated start date for this position is 9/1/2016. This position may close as early as December 8, 2015.
Unit Education:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in History or closely related field.
Master's degree in History preferred.
Coursework or degree that reflects multicultural content preferred.
Unit Experience:
Two years of teaching experience required.
Experience working with a wide range of students with diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language and nationality.
Experience teaching courses in two or more of the following areas: U.S. History in global perspective, African-American history, Latino-American history, Native-American history, and Asian-American history.
