The University of British Columbia is accepting applications for one 12-month lecturer position (1 year contract) in Japanese language, commencing September 1, 2016. This position may be renewed on an annual basis, subject to excellent performance in teaching and service and in accordance with UBC policies and procedures. The successful candidate will teach a total of 24 credits of Japanese Language courses, ranging from first to fourth-year courses, over the 12-month period. As part of his or her service duties, the successful candidate may be expected to assist the Coordinator of the Japanese Language Program in program administration and development.
Applicants are required to have native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English, a Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics, Japanese Linguistics, Language Education, or related fields and extensive teaching experience at the college/university level (particularly at the advanced-levels) in North America. Strong interest and experience in technology-based and/or content-based instruction and in curriculum development, and a strong track record of full participation in team work and program affairs will be assets. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an excellent record of teaching and service. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
