Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate survey courses in American history; they will also teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the Early Republic and Antebellum periods as well as the history of science and technology. Candidates must be committed to teaching within a vibrant public liberal arts and sciences environment and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and research with undergraduates. All faculty share student advising and participate in department/university service. Nominal teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester. Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to conduct creative activity/research in their area of expertise. These activities include, but are not limited to, research leading to publication of books and/or articles in academic and professional journals, efforts to seek funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributions to workshops and conferences.

Required Qualifications: Candidates will possess a Ph.D. in American History from a regionally-accredited university by the time of the appointment, and will demonstrate a specialization in the Early Republic and Antebellum periods with a focus on the history of science and technology.
Preferred Qualifications: The well-qualified candidate will have experience in digital history. Preference will be shown to candidates who have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching—particularly in institutions comparable to SCSU. The well-credentialed candidate will have successful experience teaching undergraduate survey courses in American History as well as upper-level and graduate courses in Early Republic, Antebellum, science/technology, and digital history. They will have experience in creating curricula and be able to creatively enhance our current curriculum. Experience in teaching with technology a plus. Ideal candidates will possess a record of excellence in research (including professional publications and presentations) in Early Republic, Antebellum, science/technology, and digital history, as well as a record of excellence in service and student advising.
