The School of Contemporary Chinese Studies (SCCS) at the University of Nottingham is Europe’s largest teaching and research centre focused on contemporary China. The Doctorate programme allows students to conduct in-depth research on a broad range of social sciences and business-related subjects as well as topics covering china policy through the School’s China Policy Institute. We currently have the following PhD scholarships opportunities:
School Scholarship for doctoral research
This award covers full tuition fees and a maintenance grant of approximately £14,057 each year for a maximum of three years of full-time doctoral study. The stipend for International students will be lower (approx. £6,500) due to the higher tuition fee. Excellent applications in any area of Chinese Studies that can be supervised by the School’s academic staff are welcomed. The closing date is 13th May 2016. Further information is available here.
Taiwan Studies Programme Scholarship
One PhD scholarship, funded by the Taiwan Studies Programme (at the China Policy Institute), is available to all who have applied for a PhD at the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies in the study of modern Taiwan. The scholarship will cover all approved university fees. A modest maintenance grant MAY be awarded to an exceptionally able Home/EU candidate. The deadline for receiving applications is 13th May 2016.
ESRC DTC Scholarships (UK/ EU students only)
The School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, supported by the University of Nottingham ESRC Doctoral Training Centre (DTC), invites applications for fully-funded PhD studentships (both 1+3 and +3 awards) within Language Based Area Studies. Proposals are invited in any of the following areas in the study of China: business and economy; finance and banking; domestic politics; foreign policy and external relations; political economy; national security and defence; society and social policies; culture, literature, the media and social media; science, technology and innovation; modern and contemporary history; politics of Taiwan and Hong Kong; and law and the judiciary. Interdisciplinary research proposals are also welcome and those interested in applying are encouraged to approach individual staff members to ascertain if their proposed research fits in with the supervisory capacity at the School.
