The Canadian Museum of History (CMH) is currently seeking for its Research Division at the Canadian War Museum, a dynamic individual who will, reporting to the Director-General, CWM and Vice-President, be responsible and accountable for the planning, direction, organization, implementation and monitoring of the historical research activities for the Museum; act as a member of the CWM senior management team and contribute to policy setting and strategic direction development and monitor progress of activities pertaining to his/her area of responsibility; plan, organize and manage the Division’s human, financial and material resources; and perform other duties as assigned.
You also hold a Master’s degree or a Doctoral degree (preferred) in History with an emphasis on Canadian Military History or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
You possess knowledge of:
• CWM/CMH mandate, programs, services and priorities;
• Canadian Military History and current historiography;
• Museology principles and practices;
• Historical research methodology in a Museum setting;
• Planning, development, implementation and evaluation of historical research as it relates to museum activities and products;
• General principles and practices of administration and the management of financial and human resources;
• Museum Act, Financial Administration Act, Official Languages Act and collective agreements.
You have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in:
• Historical research development and management in a cultural or educational institution;
• Negotiation and development of partnerships at the national and international level;
• Policy development and strategic planning;
• Presenting to and addressing various audiences, including the media;
• Management of financial and human resources within a multidisciplinary, unionized environment.
Since you will be working in a highly computerized environment, a demonstrated experience of word processing (Word), electronic spreadsheet (Excel), presentation (Power Point) and electronic mail (Outlook) is required.
