Tasmania is a dynamic and compact laboratory in which to study the leading edges of contemporary tourism. The island state has experienced a dramatic renaissance since the opening of MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) four years ago and is now a world top ten visitor destination.
Against this backdrop, the University of Tasmania is looking for an inspirational leader and highly creative senior academic with a focus on the strategic aspects of cultural and/or heritage tourism. This new position will work in close partnership with a broad alliance of tourism businesses, cultural industries, governments, indigenous corporations and environmental organisations and foster an enriched understanding of Tasmania’s distinctive heritage, environment and culture and its role in supporting Tasmania’s transition to economic, industry and cultural sustainability.
The successful applicant will have a PhD and significant research achievements relevant to the expanding public interest in cultural and/or heritage tourism, demonstrated commitment to industry engagement and a track record of generating funding from a range of sources.
This full-time, continuing (tenured) position will be based in Hobart or Launceston.
