The Department of Women's & Gender Studies within the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences of Pace University invites applications for an anticipated faculty position at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track) to begin September 2016. The position is located at the University’s New York City campus in lower Manhattan. While the successful candidate will be officially appointed to the Department of Women's & Gender Studies, s/he will be expected to teach courses in both WGS and Political Science.
Applicants should have had graduate training in both WGS and Political Science, with a preference for those who have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent in WGS and to those whose interests engage questions linked to community-based activism, advocacy organizations, and/or social justice issues. We seek applicants whose research and teaching expertise encompasses gender, critical race and ethnicity studies, and urban politics (particularly electoral politics and public policy) in the U.S. context.
Candidates will be expected to pursue a research agenda and develop courses that address questions of race and racial politics within a gendered context; issues in metropolitan politics and government; oppression, resistance, and political empowerment; and political campaigns and elections within an urban context. A demonstrated ability to obtain external grant support is highly desirable. Course assignments may include Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies; Gender, Race, and Class; advanced courses in critical race theory; American Government and Institutions, particularly at the state or local level; and urban politics.
