The Hong Kong Institute of Education is a publicly funded tertiary institution offering a full range of academic programmes at doctoral, master, bachelor and postgraduate diploma levels as well as other professional development programmes to over 11,000 students, serving teachers and professionals studying in education and related humanities, social sciences, and arts and culture disciplines. The Institute has a Graduate School and three Faculties, namely, Faculty of Education and Human Development, Faculty of Humanities, and Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; comprising altogether 16 Departments, with about 470 academic/teaching staff. It now features four Institute-level research centres and eleven Faculty-level research and development centres covering various areas of expertise in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences and the Liberal Arts.

The Institute is now looking for an outstanding scholar to take up the following appointment:
Chair Professor / Dean of the Faculty of Humanities
The appointee will be expected to provide dynamic and innovative leadership and management of the Faculty. S/He will foster excellence in teaching and learning, research and external relationships in accordance with the Institute’s vision, mission and strategic plan, and is responsible for ensuring high standards of course provision, consistent with international best practice.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in a relevant area of the Faculty, a distinguished record of research and scholarship recognized internationally, a proven record of outstanding academic leadership in tertiary institutions, including management of human and financial resources, budgeting and external networking. The appointee must demonstrate a commitment to leading research and pioneering cutting-edge developments in the relevant disciplines, and possess strong communication and networking skills to rally the support of internal and external stakeholders for the benefit of the Faculty and the Institute. A good knowledge of local higher education scene as well as an appreciation of the challenges of working in a multicultural context will be an advantage.
Faculty of Humanities
Building on the Institute’s solid foundation in language education, the Faculty of Humanities aspires to be a leading faculty by contributing to the advancement of knowledge. It supports the pursuit of academic knowledge, cross-cultural awareness and intercultural competencies, with a view to nurturing its graduates in a wide spectrum of the Humanities. The Faculty strives for excellence in research and academic development to address issues from a global perspective, to promote the understanding of human nature, and to impact positively on the well-being of Hong Kong society and beyond. With approximately 2,000 students and 77 full-time academic staff, the Faculty comprises the following academic departments, language centre and research centre:

The successful candidate will be appointed as Chair Professor and hold a concurrent appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities. Remuneration package will be highly competitive and attractive fringe benefits will be offered.
