The Newberry Library invites applications for the position of Director of the Center for Renaissance Studies. The director provides administrative and intellectual leadership for an internationally recognized research center that engages the Newberry’s extensive collections in late medieval, Renaissance, and early modern European culture. The Director plans and implements academic symposia, seminars, and lectures for the Newberry Renaissance Consortium, with 50 member universities in North America and Europe. The center also develops grant-funded projects focused on the library’s collections and delivers paleography training. Additional programs interact with the Newberry’s broader audiences, including fellows, teachers, and the general public. The director sustains a personal research agenda and also participates in the wider scholarly life of the Newberry through service across the institution. A Ph.D. in a humanities field related to Renaissance or early modern studies is required; administrative experience is preferred; experience with early modern paleography is desirable.
