The Department of American Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in the area of African American Studies, with an emphasis in African American History and Culture. +Applicants must have the Ph.D. degree, or foreign equivalent, by the start of appointment and will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching and independent research. Candidates must have demonstrated competence in theoretical and comparative study and practices in the fields of African American and interdisciplinary Ethnic Studies, as well as the ability to relate the study of African American issues to other U.S.-based ethnic groups. We are seeking candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching and scholarship, with an active, theoretically-based research agenda. The successful candidate will teach comparative and ethnic-specific courses at both the introductory and advanced levels. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
+The Department of American Ethnic Studies has 12 full-time faculty members in diverse disciplinary fields (anthropology, history, cultural studies, ethnic studies, language, literature, and sociology), as well as affiliations with faculty in other departments and programs, and is currently planning the development of a graduate program.
