The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for the tenure-track Il Hwan and Soon Ja Cho Professorship in Korean Culture and Religion, to begin July 1, 2016. The appointment is at the rank of assistant professor. We particularly encourage applications from scholars who take an interdisciplinary, transnational approach to the study of Korean culture (with possible specialization in disciplines such as art history, anthropology, history, or literature) and religion (with an emphasis on Korean Buddhism). The appointee will teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and is expected to work with fellow faculty in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, the Religion Department, and other university institutions in the development of Korean studies research, teaching, and programming at Columbia. Participation in the Columbia College Core Curriculum will be expected. PhD. degree must be completed by July 1, 2016. Review of applications will begin on October 30, 2015 and continue until the position is filled. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
