Associate Professor, Didactics of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCAFL)

The Faculty of Humanities at Göttingen University invites applications for an associate professorship (W2) in the Didactics of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (starting date April 01, 2016).The successful candidates preferably will have a PhD degree in TCAFL or in other relevant disciplines (Chinese Studies with a specialization in linguistics or the didactics of foreign language teaching, linguistics focusing on Chinese), will have a research and publication record equivalent to the German habilitation (e.g. a second book), and will have sufficient experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
The associate professor is expected to build a new research focus in the Didactics of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. S/he will pay special attention to innovative didactic concepts of teaching Chinese as a foreign language with special attention to multilingual and intercultural conditions of language acquisition in the context of high school and university education. Fluency in modern standard Chinese (Mandarin) is required.
The associate professor will cooperate closely with relevant educational institutions and with colleagues and institutions in the field of Chinese Studies at Göttingen University such as the recently established Centre for Modern East Asian Studies. Preference will be given to team-oriented candidates able to further synergies at Göttingen University and to further develop the already close cooperation with Chinese partner institutions.
