CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION:
Inaugurated in the fall of 2001, Macaulay Honors College (MHC) is dedicated to providing outstanding educational opportunities for academically gifted students from the five boroughs of New York City and beyond. The Macaulay Honors College program includes generous financial support for each student, including a full-tuition merit scholarship and a $7,500 Opportunities Fund grant. In addition, the Honors College offers unique interdisciplinary seminars focusing on New York City, training in instructional technology, dedicated mentors and advisors, prominent visiting professors, internships, study abroad experiences, and a Cultural Passport that provides entrée to the vast cultural resources of New York City. Macaulay operates in partnership with eight CUNY campuses: Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Hunter, John Jay, Lehman, Queens, and Staten Island; graduates are awarded a degree jointly conferred by Macaulay and their home campus. Currently, Macaulay Honors College has approximately 2,032 University Scholars enrolled on the eight campuses.
The Pre-Health Programs Advisor will advise students on how to progress through career programs and applications to professional schools, be aware of and advise students of medical school admission requirements, undergraduate paths towards pre-health studies, and research opportunities and awards/fellowships available to interested students. S/he will work closely with the pre-existing Pre-Health Professions Advising programs and the Academic Advisors on all 8 of the Macaulay Honors College CUNY campuses. The Pre-Health Programs Advisor will report to the Provost.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
-Assists students in understanding and exploring options available in the heal professions
-Works collaboratively with advisors an pre-existing pre-health advising services on all 8 MHC campuses to advise students and develop necessary student programming
-Works with faculty mentors and other writers to write committee letters of reference
-Supports students in identifying and securing clinical shadowing and research experience
-Maintains information about research opportunities and awards/fellowships for students
-Serves as a liaison to faculty; committee letters
-Informs students about DAT, OAT, MCAT, and GRE preparation assistance; coordinates programming specifically for MHC students
-Provides updates to faculty advisors and students on changes in medical school admission requirements, changes in the MCAT, and successful admission of students to medical and professional schools
-Works collaboratively with Institutional Research team members to keep comprehensive records on successful admission of students to medical and professional schools.
General Duties:
-Provides expert and/or specialized academic counseling a diverse student population.
-Offers comprehensive advisement to full-time and part-time students
-Works with other academic affairs staff as well as enrollment and student affairs to assist students to declare majors and select appropriate courses
-Monitors students’ performances and takes appropriate action if necessary; resolves students’ problems regarding curricular requirements
-Develops academic plans and performs graduation audits
-Provides information to students regarding student support services, college policies and program procedures and guidelines
-Facilitates workshops; assists with other department activities such as course scheduling
-Establishes and maintains student advisement files; prepares activity reports and analyses
-May supervise extramural activities, such as internships and community service’ may assist with accreditation efforts as needed
-May provide career and transfer services and/or specialized program counseling
-May supervise junior advising and/or clerical staff
-Performs related duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and four years’ related experience required.
Other Qualifications
A preferred candidate should have:
-Graduate degree in biological or health science or a Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, or student development and a Bachelor’s degree in a biological, health science or liberal arts discipline and 1 year of academic advising experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education
-Knowledge of University and College curriculum content and requirements
-Knowledge of academic advising practices and principles
-Experience working with college students
-Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to student admission and academic progression
-Knowledge of university student information systems and academic resources
-Ability to effectively communicate and work with people from a wide variety of educational, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
-Proven ability to initiate and follow through on assignments independently
-Experience with AdviseStream or other student advisement software
