The Programs in European Studies and Russian/Post-Soviet Studies at the College of William and Mary seek applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, beginning in August 2016.
We are two strong, interdisciplinary area studies programs within the interdisciplinary major of Global Studies at one of the best small public universities in the United States. The successful applicant will be jointly appointed in a home department and EURS/RPSS. We are seeking a colleague with a commitment to excellence in both teaching and research.
Required: Ph.D. in hand by date of employment (August 10, 2016). The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Candidates from all disciplines in the social sciences and humanities with appropriate expertise will be considered, with a preference for disciplines such as anthropology, art history, political science, economics, and area studies, pending departmental approval. The appointment will be jointly held in the Global Studies Program and in a host department appropriate for the candidate’s discipline. Research and teaching expertise in fields such as state socialism, the First and/or Second World Wars, post-socialist societies, migration, regionalism, and identity politics are particularly welcome. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment and a demonstrated interest in comparative and trans-regional scholarship and teaching. Teaching expectation is two courses per semester. Candidates must possess the skills to teach compelling undergraduate courses in both Russian and Post-Soviet Studies (RPSS) and European Studies (ES), as well as in the candidate’s home department. The successful candidate will be expected to teach “Introduction to European Studies” and “Introduction to Russian and Post-Soviet Studies,” as well as topics courses and research seminars for both programs.
