Job Summary:
The Department of Sociology at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology at the Assistant Professor level to begin in Fall 2016. We seek candidates who specialize in sociological approaches to global inequalities. We encourage candidates with expertise in or across areas of particular interest such as urban sociology, development, labor, social movements, stratification, and demography. Preference will be given to candidates who specialize in Africa, Middle East, or South Asia; and are prepared to teach Sociological Theory, in addition to Global Inequalities and related courses.
Job Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will offer courses in the areas of globalization and development, in addition to contributing regularly to the core requirements of the Sociology major and inter alia. The teaching load at USF is two 4-unit courses per semester with an additional third 4-unit course every fourth semester (2-2-2-3 over two years). The candidate will be expected to develop an independent and ongoing research program.
Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Sociology or other relevant discipline by August 2016, university teaching experience, a strong commitment to teaching, a strong record of scholarship, experience and willingness to work in a culturally diverse environment, an understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University, and a dedication to service to both the Department and the University.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The Department contributes to several interdisciplinary major and minor programs on campus, including: African American Studies, African Area Studies, Asian Pacific American Studies, Asian Studies, Child and Youth Studies, Criminal Justice Studies, Critical Diversity Studies, Environmental Studies, Gender and Sexualities Studies, International Studies, Latin American Studies, Legal Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Peace and Justice Studies, and Urban Studies. We also offer a number of Sociology courses in the Core Curriculum, the general education requirements common to all majors.
