ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, AMERICAN STUDIES: The American Studies Program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in global/transnational American Studies beginning Fall 2016. The successful candidate will offer introductory, methods, and capstone courses in American Studies, as well as, courses in her or his area of expertise.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in American Studies or a comparable interdisciplinary field in hand or expected by June 2016, college-level experience teaching, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity.
Preferred Qualifications: Research areas are open, but expertise in one or more of the following subfields is desirable: empire/borders/migrations; science and technology studies; indigenous/Native American studies. In addition, preference will be given to those whose teaching experience includes core American Studies courses.
American Studies is one of the oldest interdisciplinary programs at Hobart and William Smith Colleges; it offers a major or a minor, and crosslists broadly with departments and programs across the institution. The teaching load is 3/2 (or 2/3). The Colleges have a generous leave policy to support faculty research.
