Modern Europe in the World:
The History Department at Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the History of Modern Europe in the World focusing on the changing relationship between Europe and the World from the late-eighteenth to the early-twentieth century. The successful candidate’s area of expertise can be in any non-German-speaking region of Europe. Attractive subfields include commerce, environmental history, and/or digital humanities. Teaching responsibilities in a 3/2 load include an introductory survey course on the history of modern Europe and a broad array of upper level courses in the candidate’s general fields. Denison, located just 30 miles from the Columbus, OH, metropolitan area, is an increasingly diverse, highly-selective, residential liberal arts college enrolling approximately 2100 students from across the nation and around the world. The department is a dedicated group of teacher-scholars who value both teaching and research excellence as well as active service to the institution. Ph.D. and college-level teaching experience preferred; minimum requirement is Ph.D. in History or related field completed by appointment at the assistant professor level on August 27, 2016. Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the annual meeting of the American Historical Association in Atlanta, January 7-10, 2016. For full consideration, applications must be submitted by November 13, 2015, and must provide a letter of application that includes a discussion of the candidate’s teaching interests and philosophy, commitment to scholarship, and potential to foster diversity among the students and larger community, a C.V., sample syllabi, an article-length writing sample, an unofficial transcript, and 3 letters of recommendation. References must submit their letters of recommendation online. However, references will not be able to submit their letter until the applicant has submitted his/her completed application. All applicants must provide 3 names of references, complete with email addresses.
