Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Writing and Linguistics, the Assistant Professor of Professional and Technical Writing requires teaching (both online and face-to-face classes), research, and service. The ideal candidate will contribute to the growth and development of the Professional and Technical Writing area and the online Bachelor of General Studies program, along with other Department programs and activities (which may include First-Year Writing). The position is a ten-month tenure-track appointment teaching three courses per term (six courses per year), and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Summer teaching is optional but available.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in a field relevant to the Department of Writing and Linguistics—either Technical, Professional, or Scientific Writing; Rhetoric and Composition; or a closely-related field. The degree must be in hand by August 1, 2016.
- Scholarly agenda in the area of Technical, Professional, or Scientific Writing, or a closely-related field.
- At least one year of part-time college-level teaching experience (graduate assistant teaching experience is permissible).
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level, or two or more years of college-level teaching.
- Experience teaching Professional and Technical Writing courses.
- Peer-reviewed publications in Technical, Professional, or Scientific Writing, or other relevant fields.
- Experience developing and teaching online courses and programs.
- Working knowledge of professionally relevant tools and technologies.
- Interest or experience in writing grants or relevant consulting.
- Relevant industry and professional experience.
