The Department of History at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in African History to begin August 2016. The University seeks candidates who are committed to fostering excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of teaching excellence, a strong research program, and a commitment to the student population we serve. She/he will enhance our academic program by teaching lower-division courses in world history, existing and new upper-division courses in African history, Islamic history, or transnational history, as well as core program courses in research and writing. Additional responsibilities include student advising and mentoring, curriculum and program development, participation in departmental, college, and university governance structures, and active involvement in research and scholarly activities.
The position requires a Ph.D. in the discipline of History. The degree must be awarded before August 15, 2016.
Primary consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated research interests in the history of Islam in Sub-Saharan Africa, who can also teach courses in transnational or Middle Eastern history. Preference will also be shown to those who can demonstrate a record of effective teaching and student mentoring in culturally diverse academic environments. Experience with high impact practices and pedagogies that promote student success, retention, and graduation and a record of scholarly achievement in African history are also preferred.
CSU Dominguez Hills was established in 1960 and is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system. CSU Dominguez Hills is a comprehensive public university located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
