The Chapman Center for Rural Studies, in the History Department at Kansas State University, invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position beginning August 2015 to expand the Chapman Center’s engagement with digital humanities in undergraduate research and public history. This position will involve the curation and expansion of existing digital projects (for example http://lostkscommunities.omeka.net/) and development of new digital projects that document local and rural history in Kansas through undergraduate research.
Responsibilities include supporting other digital humanities work by undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty; developing workshops, and other activities to expand scholarly and pedagogical engagement in the digital humanities and working with digital humanities initiatives on campus, including the Digital Humanities Center (DHCenter@KSU).
Position comes with graduate student support and start-up funding. The position has a 2-1 teaching load with opportunities for outreach and training beyond formal courses. Teaching will include courses in digital humanities at both the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as History Department courses in the applicant’s specialization.
The most competitive candidates will demonstrate some of the following: a research focus in public humanities/history, local history, American West, or history of the Great Plains; demonstrated ability to integrate digital humanities into undergraduate courses; demonstrated ability to teach digital methodologies to humanists; and/or experience in computing-intensive digital humanities methodologies such as big data analysis, network analysis, visualization, GIS analysis, and/or backend development, and management. Preferred candidates will have Ph.D in hand by 30 August 2015.
