Subject to funding, the School of Culture and Society invites applications for an associate professorship in the history of ideas. The associate professorship is a permanent, full-time position which begins on 1 October 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position
We are seeking an innovative and dedicated candidate with a focus on Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. The associate professor is expected to develop and strengthen the profile of the history of science and technology at the School of Culture and Society, and to teach a wide range of core courses within the history of ideas. The successful applicant is moreover expected to participate as a board member in the interdisciplinary Center of Biocultural History and to contribute substantially to its activities. The position is based at the Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas.
Research
The successful applicant is expected to develop and to participate in new research projects connected to the Center of Biocultural History. The School of Culture and Society places emphasis on research of a high international standard, including interdisciplinary collaboration, participation in collective research projects and the attraction of external research funding.
Education
The associate professor is expected to teach courses in the history of science and in various modules within science and technology at both BA and MA level. The successful applicant will moreover be responsible for teaching and developing courses in the Master’s degree programme in sustainable heritage management. The associate professor is expected to contribute substantially to the interdisciplinary profile of the history of ideas programme at the Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas.
Talent development
The associate professor is expected to contribute to talent development in the field of the history of ideas, and to supervise PhD students as well as teaching and developing PhD courses.
Knowledge exchange
It is expected that the successful applicant will engage in knowledge exchange as mentioned in the strategy for the Faculty of Arts, for instance in research cooperation with private companies, government consultancy, cooperation with civil society actors or the public dissemination of knowledge. Applicants should document any prior experience within the field of knowledge exchange.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications in the history of ideas, history of science and technology or adjacent fields, as well as an international level and teaching qualifications equivalent to those acquired in an assistant professorship.
Applicants must be able to document:
- Substantial research contributions to the fields of the history of ideas, the history of science/technology and heritage studies broadly conceived.
- Experience of coordinating courses and degree programmes.
- Participation in national and international networks.
- Experience of national and international applications for funding.
- Participation in collaborative research projects with external funding.
- Experience of interdisciplinary cooperation.
