The Department of Criminology, Law & Society at the University of California, Irvine seeks candidates for up to two positions of Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (Lecturer PSOE). Lecturer PSOE is a full-time faculty position designed for individuals who wish to focus their careers on teaching, professional activities, and University and public service. Like Assistant Professors, Lecturers PSOE are evaluated for reappointment and merit salary increases every two years and within eight years (or less) are evaluated for promotion to Lecturer with Security of Employment (Lecturer SOE), which has the permanence of a tenured position. The Lecturer SOE series requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of his or her specific discipline and/or of pedagogy. Lecturers PSOE are members of the University of California Academic Senate and have all the usual benefits of Senate membership, such as eligibility for UCI’s attractive faculty housing programs, medical and retirement benefits.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to teach a variety of courses including core lower-division courses in the School of Social Ecology, introductory courses in Criminology, Law & Society, core upper-division courses in Criminology, Law & Society, and upper-division electives in Criminology, Law & Society. Candidates must have a Ph.D in a relevant field and evidence of teaching excellence. Candidates should submit a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, evidence of outstanding teaching performance (including detailed syllabi for courses previously taught and teaching evaluations), and arrange to have three letters of recommendation uploaded electronically. A separate statement that addresses past and/or potential contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion (e.g. mentoring activities, committee service, research or teaching activities) should also be included in the application materials.
