The University of Basel, Switzerland, invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Fellowship in History and Theory of Architecture and Urbanism
with the appointment scheduled to begin on August 1, 2015. This full-time position is for a period of six years, with a review after two years.
The postdoc is part of the newly established Professorship in the History and Theory of Architecture and Urbanism (Prof. Kenny Cupers), located within the university’s new Institute of Urban and Landscape Studies. While the fellow will be responsible for instruction and student advising, primary emphasis is on research.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in architectural history, urban history, or a related field. A strong research agenda with attention to the theoretical position of contemporary scholarship is desired. Particularly welcome are scholars whose work broadens historical understandings of modernity by focusing on the politics of scarcity, marginality, or alterity. Even though specialization is open to any time period, cultural tradition, or geographical area, the candidate should show interest in contributing to the institute’s focus on Africa.
