Professor of Chinese Linguistics in the Chinese Language Centre (Ref.: 201500067)
The School of Chinese seeks a scholar of high calibre to fill the tenure-track appointment as Professor of Chinese Linguistics in the Chinese Language Centre, to commence on September 1, 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. An appointee with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure towards the end of the second three-year contract.
The School values a strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree, and a high international standing in the field of Chinese linguistics (with an emphasis on modern Chinese), with an exceptional track record of high-quality research and scholarly publications. The appointee should be able to demonstrate strong academic and administrative leadership, and to promote a vibrant, collaborative research culture. The successful candidate should also be an experienced curriculum planner who is able to design and deliver courses in the disciplinary area of "Teaching Chinese as a Second Language". He/She will serve as the Director of the Chinese Language Centre.
A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee's qualifications and experience will be offered. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as annual leave, and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
