Job description:
The Graduate School brings together research in East Asian Studies (Japanese, Korean and Chinese Studies) with training in the social sciences (Political Science, Economics, Law, Social and Cultural Anthropology) as well as History and Cultural Studies. The training program is interdisciplinary with special emphasis on historically and culturally informed social science inquiry.
The post-doctoral position involves undertaking research in the context of the Graduate School's research focus on institutions in East Asia, and in particular within the working group on East Asian security, led by the GEAS Einstein Visiting Fellow, Prof. Richard Samuels (MIT).
The postdoctoral fellow will coordinate the research activities of the working group and work closely with the Einstein Visiting Fellow, the leadership of the GEAS and a group of graduate student-researchers. It is expected that the postdoctoral researcher conducts research on his or her own project, related to security in East Asia, while at the same time contributes to the research group's activities.
Minimum Requirements:
(1) Completed PhD or doctorate by the time of appointment.
(2) Field open to political science, international relations, security studies.
(3) Empirical research focus on East Asian security.
(4) Fluency in one East Asian language (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) and English.
Preferred Qualifications:
• experience in qualitative research methods
• experience of doing fieldwork in East Asia
• teaching experience
