Indiana State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. With 7 departmental and over 50 affiliated faculty, the newly established Multidisciplinary Studies Department houses five programs: Gender Studies, International Studies, Philosophy, Sociology, and Multidisciplinary Studies. The Multidisciplinary Studies major and minor serve as a vehicle for current and future collaboration, allowing both student and faculty designed programs of study, such as the newly approved minor in Genomic Advocacy. The Department is poised for growth in both current and new programmatic areas. The university seeks a dynamic Chair who values collaboration and innovation and has worked effectively in a shared governance environment. The ideal candidate will articulate a clear and compelling vision for the department's future and demonstrate the ability to lead a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students to achieve short- and long-term objectives that secure a strong, highly successful department. The Chair is expected to facilitate synergy among the department's programs and program faculty, help strengthen the department's ties with other departments and colleges in the university and with the community, advocate effectively for the department and for interdisciplinarity across the domains of teaching, research, and service. The Chair should promote good teaching, strong research, and cultivate internal and external support for departmental activities. The Chair will be assigned limited teaching responsibilities and will contribute to teaching within the multidisciplinary studies major and minor, in addition to courses in his/her particular area of specialty.
