The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Rochester invites applications for a two-year full-time position as Visiting Assistant Professor in Japanese Studies (literature and culture). We seek applicants that are able to teach two courses per semester (four courses a year) to undergraduates across the college and graduate students in humanities disciplines. Priority given to candidates whose research allows them to teach a range of periods and genres. Candidates who can contribute to one or more of the University’s strong interdisciplinary programs (the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender & Women’s Studies, Literary Translation Studies, Graduate Program in Visual and Cultural Studies, Film and Media Studies) are especially welcome. The successful candidate will participate in administering the Japanese studies program, which offers an undergraduate major and minor. Promise in research and scholarly achievements are a plus (priority given to applicants with a minimum of two peer-reviewed publications), as is teaching experience. Native or near native fluency in Japanese and English required. The successful candidate will join a friendly and vibrant Asian Studies undergraduate program in a department that cultivates a vigorous research culture.
