Schusterman Professor of Jewish Religious and Intellectual History
The Department of History and the Schusterman Center for Judaic and Israel Studies of the University of Oklahoma invite applications for the Schusterman Professor of Jewish Religious & Intellectual History beginning Fall Semester 2015. The holder of the professorship will be a tenured member of the History Department and will be appointed at the rank of associate or full professor. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and have a strong record of research and publication. Successful applicant must give evidence of excellence in college teaching. The candidate would be expected to teach a variety of courses including the core course for minors and majors on the History of Judaism. Normal teaching load will be two courses each semester. Ability to teach courses in pre-modern Jewish Social History and Culture or Sephardi/Mizrahi Studies would be welcome.
The Schusterman Professorship complements the vibrant and expanding interdisciplinary program in Judaic and Israel Studies which comprises eight core and fourteen associated faculty members and includes two other endowed positions, and a visiting Israel Studies professorship. The Center is housed within the Department of History, and the Professor of Jewish Religious & Intellectual History would be a member of that department. Between 650 and 750 students are enrolled annually in Judaic & Israel Studies classes, the majority in History, but also in courses offered by Center affiliated faculty in Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics, Anthropology, English, and International and Areas Studies. In addition to undergraduate minors in Judaic and Israel Studies and Hebrew, masters and doctoral degrees with a concentration in Jewish History and Israel Studies are offered through the Department of History. The Center also provides undergraduate and graduate scholarships for study in Israel.
