The Indiana State University African and African American Studies (AAAS) Program, which is housed in the Department of History, seeks a scholar for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2015 in the area of African Studies and History. The interdisciplinary program in AAAS at ISU was one of the first of its kind, and offers a major and minor at the undergraduate level as well as Foundational Studies courses to non-majors. Currently, its strengths are in history, literature, music, and political science.
The successful candidate must have a primary research and teaching interest in the social, cultural, or historical aspects of life in Africa. He/she will teach primarily at the undergraduate level, including general courses in African cultural traditions and the African diaspora, as well as advanced courses in his/her specialty. Ability to teach a survey course in African history is desired, and he/she may advise students in the graduate program in history. The Department of History has 18 full-time, regular faculty members, about 175 majors (including social studies education majors), and about 40 graduate students in our master's program. A Ph.D. at time of appointment (August 2015) is preferred, but those who will be advanced ABD candidates will be considered.
