Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies, College of Charleston
The Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies program at the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies, to begin August 16, 2015. The area of specialization is open. However, we are currently also searching for a new director of the Program, and we expect one of these two new faculty members to lead the newly endowed Pearlstine/Lipov Center for Southern Jewish Culture, a position which carries expectations in teaching, research, and organizing public programs. Broad training in Jewish Studies is expected, and preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to a two-semester survey of Jewish history, aimed at a general education audience.
The College of Charleston is a public, undergraduate-focused liberal arts university of approximately 12,000 students, located in the historic district of downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The Jewish Studies program offers an undergraduate major and minor, is currently expanding its own dedicated facilities, and sponsors a wide range of programming for students and the wider community. The teaching load for faculty engaged in productive research is three courses per semester, but course release is planned for the director of the Pearlstine/Lipov Center.
