DIRECTOR OF HISTORY/SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION: The Department of History at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in history/social studies education at the assistant or associate level to begin August 15, 2015. Qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in history or a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in curriculum with a concentration in social studies education, demonstrated experience in teaching social studies (history preferred) at the secondary level, and an active research agenda in their field of study. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by August 2015. The primary duty of this position is to direct the department’s program for majors seeking licensure to teach social studies at the secondary level. Teaching responsibilities include courses for majors in the program, general education courses, and courses in the candidate's area of specialization. The position includes field supervision of student teachers.
