- Minimum Ph.D. in Political Science by the beginning of the appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with subfields in Congress, the Presidency, Constitutional Law, State and Local Politics, and/or Public Policy. Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate majors and non-majors, ability to show scholarly promise and the potential for service in the UW shared governance ethic are also required.
Contribute to instruction, research/scholarship, and university/community service.
Teach 12 credit hours per semester, schedule and maintain appropriate office hours, and be available to students for consultation and academic advisement. Attend and participate in meetings of the Social Sciences department and History/Politics discipline. Courses will include Introduction to American Government, public policy, and other courses in American Institutions which complement and expand the department’s current offerings, and contribute to the University’s commitments to general education, diversity, global understanding, and the interdisciplinary Applied Social Science B.S. Program. The ability to teach courses in State and Local Government, Race and Ethnicity in American Politics and Methods is also desirable.
Show the ability to work collaboratively and engage in professional service, scholarly activities, and the pursuit of external funding. Interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty in conducting applied research in non-profit, business and industry, social service, and/or government sectors is encouraged. Interest in online delivery is a plus.
