The Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the fall of 2015. We are looking for someone who studies the comparative politics, international relations, or political economy of Sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on West, East or Central Africa. Preference will be given to candidates who focus on the following issues (1) international relations, including transnational challenges, regional relations, the African Union and sub-regional organizations; (2) peace and conflict studies, including post-conflict reconstruction, peacekeeping, conflict resolution and issues associated with refugees and displaced populations; and (3) the political economy of emerging nations, emerging economies, and resources and growth. Candidates should demonstrate a strong potential for teaching excellence and scholarly research. The successful candidate must also be prepared to teach introductory Masters-level courses on Sub-Saharan African government, politics, and modern history, in addition to advanced graduate seminars on topical issues in his or her specialty.
The Naval Postgraduate School is a fully accredited graduate school the students of which are drawn from the armed forces and civilian agencies of the United States and other countries. The Department of National Security Affairs is multi-disciplinary, with curricula based on Political Science, History, and Economics.

Candidates should submit a cover letter that includes research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, and unofficial graduate transcripts. It would also be useful to have syllabi of relevant courses taught at the level of graduate seminars. Candidates should also submit a short writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.
