The Science, Technology, and Society Department of the Rochester Institute of Technology seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in the sociocultural context of science and technology for a position to begin during the 2015-2016 academic year. Candidates with expertise in any STS subfield are welcomed to apply. Candidates should also demonstrate the potential to contribute to an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies, for which planning is currently underway.
Teaching responsibilities include introductory and upper-division courses in STS, contingent on area of expertise and department needs (5 courses/year). Candidates should demonstrate commitment to effective teaching, innovative research and publication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.

THE COLLEGE/ DEPARTMENT:
The College of Liberal Arts is one of nine colleges within Rochester Institute of Technology. The College has over 150 faculty in 12 departments in the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. The College currently offers twelve undergraduate degree programs and five Master degrees, serving over 800 students. Undergraduate degrees include Advertising and Public Relations; Criminal Justice; Economics; International Studies; Journalism; Museum Studies, Professional and Technical Communication; Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Public Policy; and Urban and Community Studies. The graduate degrees are in Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology (Experimental Psychology); Communication and Media Technologies; School Psychology; Criminal Justice; and Science, Technology, and Public Policy.
Science, Technology, and Society (STS) is the interdisciplinary field that studies science and technology in their social content and context. It is motivated by the belief that understanding science and technology, past and present, is both socially important and intellectually challenging. The courses offered by the STS Department offer students opportunities to combine science and technology studies with environmental studies, to place science and technology into historical perspective, and to focus on the challenges of new science and technology policy (www.rit.edu/sts).
