The University of Michigan, Department of Communication Studies seeks applicants for a tenure track/tenured position. This will be a university-year appointment. Expanding department emphasizes interdisciplinary study of the mass media and new, emerging media. We seek a scholar whose work focuses on sexuality and the media. Anticipated starting date is September 1, 2015.
The department seeks a scholar who does critical, qualitatively-based research in one or more of the following areas: LGBT representations in legacy and/or new media; gender, sexuality and the media; queer studies and/or queer identity; LGBT audiences; media debates and representations of sexual orientation and sexual attitudes; the history and evolution of LGBT invisibility, stereotyping, and visibility in the media. We seek a scholar whose research methods include historical, archival work, textual analysis, in-depth interviewing, qualitative content analysis or ethnography.

Completed Ph.D. by September 2015 required.
